Poet will read from recent work this Friday

Writer and poet Christina M. Rau will read from her recent collection, “Liberating the Astronauts,” Friday as part of Texarkana A&M University-Texarkana’s Program for Learning and Community Engagement series.

The reading will be from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Room 271 of the University Center, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas. It is free and the public is invited. Copies of her collection will also be available at the reading.

Rau is the founder of Poets In Nassau, a reading circuit on Long Island, N.Y. She teaches English at Nassau Community College, where she also serves as poetry editor for “The Nassau Review.”

She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing at Long Island University Southampto­n, a Master of Arts degree in English and creative writing at Hofstra University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in English from State University of New York at Oneonta.

PLACE is a faculty-led program designed to create a community of learners comprising A&M-Texarkana students, faculty, staff and the community at large. PLACE chooses an annual theme around which to organize a lecture series and other activities, which provide focal points for learning and discussion. This year’s theme is “Science and Technology.”
