Guard-Line new spot for E-Waste Recycle Day

- By Neil Abeles

Guard-Line at the Atlanta Business Park on U S. Highway 59 south will be the new location for the 13th annual E-Waste Recycle Day conducted by the Atlanta Amity Study Club.

“We’re doing all we can to protect our environment and many of the electronic items we collect contain harmful parts on their insides,” said Rosalie Griffin, club member.

“Rather than putting used electronic gear in our landfill, the items will be disposed of properly and parts recycled where possible.”

The time of the event on Saturday, April 21, will be from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Deliveries of e-waste items are to be made at the loading dock behind Guard-Line. The address for Guard-line in its business park location is 1001 Progress Drive.

As in collection efforts in the past, Boy Scout Troop 47 led by Scott Caver will have youth with willing hands to unload the items brought. Also, as in the past, the recycling effort will be in cooperation with UNICOR which is a federal recycling partner, the Amity Club members said.

Last year, some 20,257 pounds of unwanted electronic items were taken to Texarkana at the UNICOR recycling station at the Federal Corrections institution, Griffin said.

“The effort also helps people at FCI gain vocational skills. And also last year, some 46 old cell phones were collected and donated to our local Domestic Violence Prevention center to be refurbished to allow clients to call 911 in case of an emergency.”

All electronic items will be accepted but in this special case microwaves and vacuum cleaners are not accepted. For information on acceptable items, call 903796-2274.

“E-Waste Recycle Day is usually held on the Saturday closest to Earth Day which is April 21 this year. We’re glad to be a part of these important occasions,” Judy Lynch of the Amity Club said.
