Arkansas-side bakery a labor of love for the mother-daughter team
The smell of delicious sweet treats and cakes baking are the first things a person will notice when they walk in Twice as Nice Cakes & More.
The bakery, which has been open about a month, is located at 1201 Arkansas Blvd.
Lacy Davis and her mom Crystal Williams co-own the operation.
“I’m the sanity, the cookies, cake balls and mothering of it all,” Crystal said with a laugh.
Lacy said she’s the artist but her mother is the backbone. It’s obvious the two women love working together.
Lacy had been working in another local bakery for a few years and came to the point where she was ready to venture out on her own.
“I was the decorator and manager there and I just wanted to have my own place,” Lacy said.
She enjoys many different types of art, but she discovered her knack for decorating cakes by accident.
“I was working at this bakery and a cake went out wrong. They brought it back and I was the only person still there so I had to redo it. Basically I just got thrown to the wolves but I’ve been doing it ever since,” she said.
Twice as Nice Cakes makes cakes for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries or any other occasion that calls for cake.
They also have cookie cakes, cupcakes, brownies, cookies, pies, candies, cake balls and cake sandwiches.
It’s a labor of love for the mother-daughter team.
“The people are my favorite part of this job. I want them to walk out of here with a smile on their face,” Lacy said. “Our cakes are extremely moist. The cookies are soft. We don’t hurry through our job.”
Mom agrees.
“I want to see people smile and say ‘Wow. That was delicious,’” Crystal said. “We put a lot of love in what we do.”
