Six area squads in hunt for titles

Six area softball teams begin their playoff journeys on Thursday, with some schools playing a best-ofthree bi-district series and others playing one game.

Texas High takes on North Forney in Class 5A action at 7 p.m. Thursday at Texas A&M University-Commerce. It will be a winner-take-all game.

Liberty-Eylau will play a best-of-three series against Canton in Class 4A; the first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at Longview High School. Game 2 is Friday at 6 p.m. back at Longview High School, and Game 3, if needed, will be Saturday at 2 p.m.

Atlanta takes on Van in a best-of-three series starting at 7 p.m. Thursday at East Texas Baptist University. Game 2 will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday at Emory Rains, with a Game 3, if needed, to follow.

In Class 3A, Hughes Springs faces Cooper in a one-game eliminatio­n bi-district contest at 8 p.m. Friday at Northeast Texas Community College.

The Hughes Springs game will be played after Hooks goes up against Mount Vernon at 6:30. The Lady Hornets will play a best-of-three series. Game 2 is on Friday at 6 p.m. with Game 3, if needed, at noon on Saturday. All of Hooks’ games will be at NTCC. Redwater faces Prairiland at Pine Tree High School, with the first pitch slated for 8 p.m. Thursday. Game 2 is Friday at 6 p.m. back at Pine Tree, and Game 3 will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday, if needed.

Class 2A Avery got a first-round bye.
