Trinity Christian dominates in state championship
MINERAL SPRINGS, Ark.— Adam Bruce and Rhett Nelson led a dominating Trinity Christian Warriors track and field team to an easy victory in the Class 1A state championships at Mineral Springs High School Wednesday.
Trinity Christian won the team title with a total of 124 points, Mineral Springs was second with 67, and Decatur third, 61.
Bruce placed in four events with a second place in the 1600 meters with a personal best, 4:44; second in the 3200 meters, 11:04; third in the 800 meters, 2:13; and third in the 400, 53.48 for a total of 28 points.
Nelson captured the pole vault with a state meet record of 15-6, and also won the 300-meter hurdles with a 44.61. The sophomore was second in the 110 hurdles, 17.37, for a total of 28 points.
Jacob Martin scored well with a victory in the 3200, 10:52; third in the 1600, 4:56; and 6th in the 800, 2:11.
Reid Fellers also placed in three events with a victory in the long jump, 21-05; second in the triple jump, 43-3; and 5th in the high jump, 5-6.
Besides Nelson, two others placed in the pole vault. Colton Youngblood was second with a personal best, 12-2, and Evan Miller was fourth, 11-0.
Ben Kaczmarek placed second in the discus, 122-0, and Grant Nolen was 5th in the shot put, 39-1.
By winning their events, Nelson and Fellers will be competing in the Meet of Champions next Saturday, May 12.
