Prep teams roll on
As area baseball teams continue their runs in the area round, softball teams are looking to dig deeper into postseason play with regional quarterfinal matchups this week.
Texas High and Pleasant Grove are the two city teams that remain alive. New Boston, Hughes Springs, Queen City, Linden-Kildare, James Bowie and Maud round off the area baseball teams vying for another week of play.
In softball, Hughes Springs, Hooks, New Boston and Avery aim to keep their streaks going.
BASEBALL Texas High (24-5) vs. The Colony (19-10-1)
The Tigers, who want to add to their already inspired season, will face off against
The Colony in a Class 5A single-elimination game at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Paris Chisum in Paris, Texas.
Pleasant Grove (22-3) vs. Bullard (14-11)
The Hawks look to continue their rich tradition of winning on Friday in Game 1 when they play Bullard at 7 p.m. at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. Game 2 is set for 4:30 p.m. at ETBU and, if needed, a Game 3 will follow.
New Boston (16-9) vs. Beckville (26-2)
The Lions will clash with a two-loss Beckville at 7 p.m. on Friday in Harleton, Texas. Game 2 will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, which will be followed by a Game 3, if needed. Hughes Springs (24-2) vs. New Diana (18-9)
The Mustangs, who have only dropped two games all season, get New Diana next, with a 5 p.m. first pitch on Friday at ETBU. Game 2 will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at ETBU and, if needed, a Game 3 will follow.
Linden-Kildare (18-3-1) vs. Kerens (18-6)
The Tigers are coming off a 20-0 blowout win last week and will look to keep the momentum going into Friday’s game against Kerens. Game 1 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at University of Texas at Tyler, and Game 2 will be at 3 p.m. Saturday. If needed, a Game 3 will follow 30 minutes after Game 2’s completion.
James Bowie vs. Price Carlisle
The Pirates and Price Carlisle will clash in a one-game elimination contest on Friday at 6 p.m. in Marshall, Texas. James Bowie hammered Cumby last week, 19-1.
Maud vs. Big Sandy
After coming off a firstround bye, the Cardinals will get started with a game against Big Sandy with a doubleheader on Friday at Spring Hill in Longview, Texas. Game 1 is slated for 5 p.m., and Game 2 will follow. Game 3 will be at West if needed.
SOFTBALL
Hooks vs. Hughes Springs
The Lady Mustangs, who have not allowed a run this postseason and have only lost three games total, is the next opponent for the Lady Hornets. The single-elimination game will be played at 6 p.m. on Friday at North Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant, Texas.
Avery vs. Overton
The Lady Bulldogs will square off against Overton in a single-elimination game on Friday at 2 p.m. in Gilmer, Texas. Avery received a firstround bye and defeated Union Grove, 6-4, last week.
