Movies in the Park series kicks off

Family-friendly films are featured in this spring’s Movies in the Park series, which begins Thursday at Spring Lake Park.

Texarkana, Texas, Parks and Recreation Department will screen a free movie outdoors in the park each Thursday through June 17. This spring’s lineup follows, with informatio­n from imdb.com.

■ May 24—“Coco”

PG. 2017. Animated. Winner of Academy Awards for best animated feature and best original song. Voices of Anthony Gonzalez, Gael Garcia Bernal, Benjamin Bratt. Aspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family’s ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfathe­r, a legendary singer.

■ May 31—“Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”

PG-13. 2017. Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Jack Black. Four teenagers are sucked into a magical video game, and the only way they can escape is to work together to finish the game.

■ June 7—“Wonder”

PG. 2017. Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, Jacob Tremblay. Based on the New York Times bestseller, the inspiring, heartwarmi­ng story of August Pullman, a boy with facial difference­s who enters fifth grade, attending a mainstream elementary school for the first time.

■ June 14—“Paddington 2”

PG. 2017. Hugh Grant. Voices of Ben Whishaw, Michael Gambon, Imelda Staunton. Paddington, now happily settled with the Brown family and a popular member of the local community, picks up a series of odd

jobs to buy the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, only for the gift to be stolen.

Each movie will begin as the sun sets, around 7:45 p.m. Viewers are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on. Concession­s will be for sale.
