Texas A&M is a family and ‘community of learners’

-

As a member of a world-renowned higher education system, Texas A&M UniversityTexarkana provides students with the prestige of a Texas A&M University degree earned on a campus well-recognized as a true “community of learners.”

We call this community our Eagle Family. It’s a family of learners of all ages, from all over the world. It’s a family of highly regarded faculty and dedicated staff. We’re a family of coaches and athletes, scholars and friends. Our family is constantly growing, as we work to provide an increasing number of highly educated leaders and professionals to Texarkana and the world.

Growing

Starting college can be exciting but stressful. The first year of college is a critical time in a student’s academic life. What happens in that first year can have a profound impact on future academic and professional success, whether you’re an 18-year-old, first-time student or are returning to college later in life. To support this transition, A&M-Texarkana developed a comprehensive, coordinated First-Year Experience program (FYE). Drawing on campus-wide resources, FYE provides academic and select non-academic services dedicated to supporting students’ transition into college and putting them on a path toward graduation. The FYE program is designed to help students get comfortable on campus, connect with the university and start to think of A&MTexarkana as home.

Growing your mind

A&M-Texarkana allows students to receive an exceptional education in a smaller setting. Our student-to-teacher ratio is 15:1. That means more one-on-one instruction from world-class professors, 98 percent of whom have attained a doctorate in their field. They’ll get to know their students personally. They might sit down beside them at an Eagles baseball game or next to them in the café. They will push them academically. They will challenge them intellectually. They will demand their best work, but they’ll also encourage and cheer students on to successes they can’t yet imagine while earning one of 22 undergraduate or 17 graduate degrees.

Growing the individual

A world-class education provides much more than classroom experiences. We want our students to grow socially and personally as well. Texas A&M-Texarkana provides a wealth of opportunity for them to meet new people and experience new things. There are more than 40 student groups and organizations on campus, including a number of Greek organizations, multicultural clubs and religious groups. Campus Activities and Student Life are always sponsoring some kind of great event—from fishing derbies and crawfish boils to concerts by the lake and game nights at University Center. There is always something to do and plenty of friends to go around.

A growing campus for a growing community

Our campus is growing. We’re expanding our campus to better serve our students. There are currently two major construction projects on campus, providing more than $40 million in expanded classroom, laboratory, recreational and athletic facilities. The Student Recreation Center will open in 2018 and house a regulation gym with seating for 1,500, classrooms, a state-of-the-art biomechanics lab, a game room, athletic offices and locker rooms, recreational locker rooms, athletic department offices and a café featuring Starbucks coffee.

The second building under construction is the building for Academic and Student Services. The new building will house admissions; financial aid; classrooms and laboratories for the nursing program; classrooms and labs for business, engineering and technology courses; open study areas; group learning spaces; and faculty offices. This building is scheduled to open in spring 2019.

New buildings, rigorous academics, intercollegiate athletics and a wealth of student-support services help us attract strong students to our campus. Many of these students will stay here, choosing to teach in our schools, lead existing companies or one day open businesses of their own. When we grow, Texarkana grows. Come join the Eagle family and grow with us.
