LSU makes it into SEC title game, 2-1, over Arkansas

HOOVER, Ala.—Zach Watson hit a two-run homer in the sixth, and Zack Hess allowed only one hit in seven innings, leading LSU to a 2-1 victory Saturday over Arkansas in the Southeaste­rn Conference tournament semifinals.

The defending champion Tigers (37-24) will play for their 13th SEC tournament title Sunday against Mississipp­i.

Hess (7-5) allowed one run while striking out seven. Nick Bush pitched two scoreless innings for his second save.

Bush recorded five straight outs after allowing two eighth-inning singles.

Arkansas (39-18) had a pair of hits in the eighth but Bush escaped with a flyout and fielder’s choice.

The game was delayed for some 90 minutes by bad weather starting in the third inning.

Arkansas’s Jared Gates homered shortly after play resumed.

LSU had made it to the semifinals with an 11-0, mercy-rule win over Florida. The game was completed Saturday after getting halted by dense fog.

HOOVER, Ala.—Jordan Fowler and Will Ethridge combined on an eight-hitter to lead Mississipp­i to a 2-1 win over Texas A&M on Saturday in the Southeaste­rn Conference tournament semifinals.

The Rebels (45-15) advanced to the championsh­ip game and will face LSU or Arkansas on Sunday. They’re seeking their third tournament title and first since 2006.

Fowler (7-0) pitched six scoreless innings for the Rebels to outduel Mitchell Kilkenny (8-4). Ethridge allowed only an unearned run over the final three innings.

Ole Miss scored twice in the fourth inning, getting a run-producing groundout from Cole Zabowski and an RBI single from Will Golsan.

The Aggies (39-20) got one run in the eighth when four straight reached with two outs, kept alive by a fielding error. Logan Foster, who also tripled, singled home a run.

Ethridge struck out Allonte Wingate to leave the bases loaded. He induced three straight groundouts in the ninth.

LSU 11, Florida 0

HOOVER, Ala.—Antoine Duplantis had two hits and three RBIs to lead LSU to a win over top-seeded Florida on Saturday in the Southeaste­rn Conference Tournament.

The Tigers (36-24) were leading 10-0 in the sixth Friday night when the game was suspended because of dense fog. It was decided after the top of the seventh under the 10-run mercy rule.

The Gators (42-17) were eliminated but are likely to be the No. 1 overall national seed. LSU moved on to face Arkansas with a spot in the championsh­ip game on the line.

The Tigers scored eight runs in the sixth, all but one before play was halted.

Matthew Beck (3-1) threw four innings in just his second start of the season for LSU. Cam Sanders pitched two innings and Devin Fontenot one.

Jack Leftwich (4-5) allowed two hits and three runs, one earned, in five innings for the Gators.
