Library’s summer reading club to feature host of children’s musicians
Music, magic and plenty of prizes are part of this year’s Tex ark ana Public Library Summer Reading Club, which begins with a registration event Saturday.
Parents are invited to register children for the club and special activities taking place throughout June and July.
Children’s musicians Will Parker, the Spoon Man and Marshal Mitchell will perform in June, as will returning illusionist Magic Mr. Nick, children’s librarian Nancy Whittemore said. An astronomy program called “The Universe at Your Fingertips” and artist Linda Larey also will be featured.
Children in the club will keep a book log to record reading time at home. They will return the book log to the library to record
their hours and draw for prizes from Fun Country, Four States Fair and local restaurants.
Those who read for the required number of hours by July 14 can attend an invitation-only party July 20. This year’s party features a show by family musical entertainer David Chicken “filled with creative movement, motivational messages and general hilarity,” according to davidchicken.com.
The registration kickoff will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. June 2 in the David Nelson Meeting Room at the library, 600 W. Third St.
