Mother-daughter art show in Hope
HOPE, Ark.—The Southwest Arkansas Arts Council showcases the art of mother and daughter Lisa and Caley Pennington through June 29 at the Art Station Gallery.
Lisa “conveys everyday people, animals and places” with primarily acrylics and oil, said Tamara Read, SWAAC gallery chairman. “Her magnification of the reality of life draws the viewer in and creates a bond with her subjects.”
“Lisa has used her eyes to help her gain a better understanding of the complexities in her environment. Her unique observations are evident in her artwork. While exploring a wide variety of media and a broad array of subject matter, her focus has been on breathing life into her art,” Read said.
Caley works with a “variety of media as a way to explore and initiate connections between those that view her work,” Read said. “Using the individuals with
whom she interacts, she creates portraits on raw wood surfaces. Each work serves as a way to explore how relationships evolve, from initial impacts to intimate lifelong connections.”
Read said, “Through the subjects’ facial expressions, the overall composition and the nature of the wood grain, she explores the relationship between a person’s external facade and what she calls ‘the internal emotional environment.’”
Both mother and daughter are teachers: Lisa at the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana and Caley at Arkansas State UniversityBeebe.
The Art Station Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays at 200 E. Division St. in Hope.
