Mooney liked this song

This week in 1973: According to Washington reports, papers revealed that President Richard Nixon approved a “partly illegal” ’70 internal security plan; The United States asked Costa Rico to extradite fugitive financier Robert Vesco; John Dean pleaded the Fifth Amendment at Watergate hearings; and a country music duet had their first No. 1 duet album.

Good things sometime come in pairs and such was the case of Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn’s 1973 No. 1, “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.”

The MCA album was their first No. 1 duet album on Sept. 15, 1973.

And four weeks earlier, the album’s title track became their third No. 1 duet single.

And the idea for the pair to record the song came from Lynn’s husband, Mooney Lynn, who happened to be on hand when the song was brought to Loretta’s office. Mooney asked to keep the song to see if he could persuade Twitty and Lynn to record it. So he did and they did.

Lynn and Twitty’s MCA single “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” came on the charts June 23rd, 1973 and made it to number one. It was on the charts for 14 weeks.

The song was written by Becki Bluefield and Jim Owen. The single was produced by Owen Bradley.
