-

Two men have been arrested on drug charges after a Sunday night traffic stop.

The Texarkana, Texas, Police Department arrested Wyndel Shepherd Jr., 26, and Jalen Nix, 17, both of Texarkana, Texas, on numerous drug charges following a traffic stop in the 4300 block of Texas Boulevard, TTPD spokesman Shawn Vaughn said.

Officer Wade Johnson stopped a 2012 Hyundai for a minor traffic violation at 7:52 p.m. Sunday in the 4300 block of Texas Boulevard. When Johnson approached the driver’s-side window to speak to Shepherd, he immediately noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, Vaughn said. Nix was the only passenger. After Officer Misty Tyler arrived to help Johnson, they searched the vehicle.

Inside the vehicle, officers reportedly found marijuana stored in a mason jar, a bottle of codeine syrup, baggies containing 18 Xanax pills, 12 oxycodone pills, 10 pills believed to be MDMA (Ecstasy), cocaine, crack cocaine and methamphetamine. In addition to several scales, they also reportedly found a loaded pistol under each of the front seats.

Both Shepherd and Nix were charged with seven counts of possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana and unlawfully carrying a weapon and were taken to the Bi-State Jail without incident. A judge set bond for each of the men at $181,000.
