Tourney goes into final day

Day 2 of the Phil Sandoval Memorial tournament is in the books.

The Texarkana Razorbacks, Arkansas Pulpwood, Post Eight Cannoneers and Arkansas Titans all posted wins at Joe Blagg Field. The Razorbacks and Cannonneer­s, however, also dropped a game in the second day.

Today’s semifinal senior games will be at George Dobson Field at 9 a.m. and at 11:15 a.m. The championsh­ip game is slated for 4:40 p.m.

The junior semifinals will be today at H.E. Markham Park, with games at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. The junior championsh­ip game is slated for 2:20 p.m. at George Dobson Field.

Texarkana Razorbacks 7, East Texas Beasts 4

One big inning was all the Razorbacks needed.

The Hogs plated seven runs in the second and defeated the Beasts, 7-4, on the second day of the Phil Sandoval Memorial tournament at Joe Blagg Field.

Kyle Choate smacked a tworun double to left center to give Texarkana a 2-0 lead. The lead was padded when a run each scored on a fielder’s choice and a bases loaded walk.

Dakota Turner hit a deep shot to right center with the bases loaded as three runs scored, 7-0.

Beasts’ starting pitcher Philip Sissons issued four free passes in the first.

Liam Rodgers went the distance for the Hogs and earned the win.

East Texas answered in the third with three runs. Sissons hit a tworun single through the hole at

short, and, a batter later, Rigo Zaldivan singled to left field to make it 7-3.

Three consecutiv­e singles by Bryant Roberts, Alex Zaldivan, and Sissons led to a run for the Beasts in the fourth. East Texas inched a little closer, 7-4.

The game ended after the top of the sixth inning, time limit.

Arkansas Pulpwood 6, Texarkana Razorbacks 1

Kyle Choate, who singled, scored on an error to give the Razorbacks an early 1-0 lead after two.

Pulpwood plated six runs in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. During the frame, seven walks were issued, one batter was hit, and a hit was given up by the Hogs.

Gabe Parker had the only other hit for the Razorbacks, a single.

The game ended after the fourth inning, time limit.

Post Eight Cannoneers 13, Burkburnet­t Blacksox 12, 8 innings

Tanner Seider hit a walk-off RBI single to center as the Cannoneers edged the Blacksox, 13-12, in the longest game of the tournament.

The teams played well past the tournament time limit until a winner emerged.

Trent Padron hit a one-run double to left center and a batter later, Tanner Seider had an RBI single in the second frame to make it 5-1 in favor of the Post Eight Cannoneers.

Bryce Whiteley hit a sacrifice fly and another Cannoneer run scored on a fielding error.

Daylan Saenz smacked a one-run double to right field and Kody Taborsky followed with an RBI single to put Post Eight up, 9-1.

A pair of Blacksox runs came across in the third on a hit and a pair of errors to make it 9-3.

Dylan Lopez and Joey Browning each had RBI singles in the sixth for the Blacksox, while teammate Eric Rios added a two-run double. The team from Burkburnet­t, Texas, put up eight runs in the frame to take an 11-10 lead.

Koby Taborsky smacked a double to left center to score Joe Gilligan and Bryce Whitley, who had each singled, to knot the game at 11-all for the Ballinger, Texas, Cannoneers.

The Blacksox failed to score in the eight, and the Cannoneers jumped on the opportunit­y to take the win.

Jet McAlexande­r, who walked, scored on a fielder’s choice in the first inning.

The Cannoneers responded and took the lead with three runs in the first. With the bases loaded, the Blacksox’s pitcher walked a batter and a run scored. The next batter, Saenz, doubled to left center as two runs scored to give the Cannoneers a 3-1 lead. Blacksox 102 008 10 — 12 5 2

Titans 4, Cannoneers 2

Cody Harral doubled and was brought home on a bunt by Trent Padron, who safely reached first for the first run of the game for the Cannoneers.

The Titans scored three runs in the second on an RBI single by Justin Scott, a sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch. They went up 4-1 after a run in the third on Gage Harris’ sacrifice fly.

Daylan Saenz scored on fielder’s choice to inch the Cannoneers closer, 4-2, after four frames.

The game ended with no outs in the top of the fifth, time limit.

Bulldogs 5, Titans 4

The Guaranty Bank Texarkana Bulldogs slipped past the Titans 5-4 Saturday morning in the opening game of the Phil Sandoval Tournament at George Dobson Field in Spring Lake Park.

At the start of the fifth inning the Bulldogs trailed 3-4. TJ Krause knocked an infield single to right as the lead off hitter. Matthew Gilley followed with a double down third base line to bring Krause back home and knot the game at four. Gage Gore took the plate with two outs and smashed a single that hopped over the Titans’ first baseman that allowed Matthew Gilley to score securing the win as the allottedd time limit expired.

In the opening frame Jacoby Ross broke the ice for Texarkana with a lead of triple. Krause followed with a sacrifice fly to score Ross. Bryan Moore was also forced home on a walk to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.

The Titans answer in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly from Ben Muldoon that brought home Gage Harris. After losing two outs, Justin Scott hit a two RBI single to score Remmy Bilodeau and Chase Gentry and take the lead 3-2.

Harris ran in the Titans last run in the third with help from Garret Mayhan who hit a double to the left field wall to put the Titans back on top before the Bulldogs stole it back in the fifth.

Giley led the Bulldogs hitting with a double and an RBI and Krause and Gore complement­ed with a single and an RBI each.

Pulpwood 9, Braves 5

Arkansas Pulpwood thumped the Braves 9-5 in game two on Saturday at George Dobson Field in in Spring Lake Park.

In the third frame Pulpwood increased its lead to six runs after four hits. Blake Waller started the charge with a single hop to left to score Josh Winfield. Scott Thomas Bratton followed by hitting a two RBI single that found a hole in the left field and scored Jameson Milner and John Dawson. Next, Cole Boyd launched pop fly that dropped in right field to score Waller. Chance Johnson was last to contribute to Arkansas’ third inning advance with a single to centerfiel­d that allowed Bratton to score, 7-1 Pulpwood.

In the following inning Arkansas tacked on two more runs to extend the lead to eight. Emmett Jeffers started the inning with a lead off single to left field. Mark Smith hit a single to the other side, and John Dawson smacked one up the middle to load the bases. Waller solved the overpopula­tion by launching a double to the right side to score Jeffers and Smith.

The Braves gave Pulpwood a scare in the top of the fifth inning by scoring four runs, including one three RBI single by Bryce Holland, and cutting an eight point deficit down to four before Arkansas collected the final out and claimed the win.

Waller led Arkansas’ hitters with two singles, a double, and five RBI. Johnson and Bratton added two singles apiece, and Jeffers, Milner, and Smith contribute­d a single.

Holland was the leading hitter or the Braves with a double and three RBI.

Bulldogs 6, A’s 6

The Guaranty Bank Texarkana Bulldogs and the Ada A’s ended game three of Satuday’s match-ups at the Phil Sandoval Tourney at George Dobson Field in Spring Lake Park with a knot at six.

Connor Allen bounced a hit over the pitcher’s mound for a single for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the fifth while his team trailed 5-6. Tyson Daigle ripped a triple along the first base foul line to score Allen.

Defenses held for both teams in the sixth as the allowed time of play expired.

Texarkana went up first in the opening inning when Hayden Stover connected on cut that sent the ball through centerfiel­d to score Jackson Warren. Tucker Anderson added a single to deep right that allowed Zach Lusk and Stover to score.

Brady Benedict answered for the A’s with a single along the third base line to score Rylan Reed and Aaron Dockery to make the score 3-2 to the Bulldogs.

In the second frame Lusk launched a single to right field that scored Chase Gross to increase Texarkana’s lead to two.

Ada retaliated in the fourth inning with two runs to tie the game at four. The first came off a double by Benedict to right, and a the second from an infield error that allowed Tristen Huckleberr­y to score.

The scale tipped again to Texarkana in the bottom of the fourth when Zack Lusk hit a sacrifice fly to score Gross.

The tug-o-war continued in the fifth with with the A’s Conner Owens smashing a single to left to score Benedict and Matt Cox hitting a single to left to score Huckleberr­y and reclaim the lead 6-0 before Daigle put it in knots the last time in the sixth.

Stover led the Bulldogs hitters with three singles. Warren, Lusk, Allen, and Gross each contribute­d two singles of their own.

Ada’s hitting was spearheade­d by Benedict who finished with a single, two doubles, and an RBI.

Braves 11, Beasts 5

The Ada Braves toppled the East Texas Beasts, 11-5, after trailing 4-0 the first inning in Saturday’s game four of the Phil Sandoval Tournament held at George Dobson Field in Spring Lake Park.

Ada made up for lost ground in the second inning racking five runs. Four of the five runs were unearned and came as a result of the beasts errors. Ryan MarKenny put the first run on the board for Ada with a free walk home. Robert Breily and Mekhi Edwards score both scored off an error at home plate (4-4) and Dayne Bowerman was forced to walked home. Edwards added the first earned run, a single to center field to score Dansby.

After their second inning surge the Braves continued to put distance between themselves and the Beasts with runs in each inning many coming off the Breasts’ mistakes.

In the third Bowerman brought in MarKenny with a single to left field, and in the fifth he hit a sacrifice fly to score Edwards. Of the remaining four runs, Dansby scored one due to a balk, Robert Breily one scored one as a result of an error at home plate, and Receive Bankston and Cooper Simon stole the other two off wild pitches.

Edwards led Ada’s hitters with two singles and an RBI. Completing Edwards was Breily with a single and a double, and Bowerman with a single and two RBI.

The Beasts were led by Jack Bobbitt who had the only homer of the contest, a solo in the fifth, and a single. Bryant Roberts added a single and double, and two Alex Zaldivar provided two singles and an RBI.

Bulldogs 8, Blacksox 0

The Guaranty Bank Texarkana Bulldogs shut out the Blacksox, 8-0, in game five of the Phil Sandoval Tournament at George Dobson Field in Spring Lake Park. This was the Bulldog’s third game of the day.

With a six point lead Chris Lyles hit an in the park home run to score himself and Jacoby Ross to finish the game.

Bryan Moore led the Bulldogs with a perfect three for three at bat and a run scored. Matthew Gilley added two singles and two runs scored of his own.

Moore got the ball rolling in the first inning with a single to left field. Connor Allred brought him back home with a triple to right field. Allred then brought himself home on a wild pitch. 2-0 Texarkana.

In the fourth frame Lyles hit a single to the back left wall that gave Gilley enough time to score.

Stavinoha and Gilley started the fifth bottom of the within inning by scoring on an error at centerfiel­d. Hayden Hackett followed suit getting on base after an outfield error. Then, to finish the match, Lyles floated a shot to the back left corner and made his was around all three bases.

Wyatt Stavinoha went the distance for Texarkana, throwing five innings, giving up five runs, and only walking two Blacksox batters.
