Fayettevil­le golfer wins amateur division in ASGA tourney

Luke Long, of Fayettevil­le, Ark., outplayed the field on Saturday to take amateur division championsh­ip of the Arkansas State Golf Associatio­n amateur tournament at the Texarkana Country Club.

The 2018 All-Southern Conference performer from the University of Tennessee-Chattanoog­a shot a 5-under-69 in the third round for a three-round total of 211 to claim the ASGA title.

Hensley’s Brent Winston and Lake City’s Thomas DePriest finished tied in second with an evenpar score. Texarkana’s Chuck Gardner and Matt Prieskorn were tied for 14th at 224.

In the senior flight, Gordy McKeown won by a stroke over fellow Little Rock golfer Tracy Harris. Steve DeLaughter and Bruce Hornbuckle, both of Texarkana, finished eighth and 10th, respective­ly.

Cabot’s Bill Wrentz shot a 234 to take the super-senior flight as Bryant’s Keith Browning finished in second with a 237 and Greenbrier’s Dill Gunn in third, with a total of 239. Texarkana’s Randy Moore finished in sixth with a 249.

Glen Talbert, of Sheridan, claimed the top spot of the masters flight with a three-day score of 228, Charlie Angel, of Hot Springs finished second with a 232, and Fort Smith’s Ron Richard in third with 234. Texarkana’s Larry Walls, who finished fourth, shot a 238.

In the mid-senior flight, Mark Graham, of Fort Smith, won by two strokes at 222, and fellow Forth Smith golfer Neal Partrige and Little Rock’s Stan Payne followed up with a 224 to finished tied in second.
