University hosts engineering summer camp
Southern Arkansas University will hold a three-day, two-night engineering summer camp on July 9-11 for students in grades 8-12.
The camp is designed to grow interest in engineering and physics among high school students. Hands-on engineering projects include building and programming Lego Mindstorms robots, playing with Arduino-based electronics and hardware, designing the path of a robotic arm, building model bridges and structures, design and modeling with Solid Works and material testing using a force tester. Activities will also include physics demonstrations, as well as an astronomy night observation.
Lodging and food will be included in the price, and all participants will receive an engineering t-shirt.
The cost is $275 for overnight campers or $200 for day-only campers.
SAU Engineering is offering four scholarships for top-performing campers this year.
Scholarship winners will be selected over the course of the camp, and their registration fees will be refunded by the university after the camp is finished.
An awards ceremony will be held July 11, and all applications must be submitted online by July 2.
