- —Aaron Brand

People who receive SNAP food assistance are now eligible for reduced admission at Texarkana Museums System’s four downtown museums.

The TMS recently announced it has joined the Museums for All program, which helps the TMS with its goal of being inclusive at the Museum of Regional History, Discovery Place Interactive Museum, Ace of Clubs House and P.J. Ahern Home.

People presenting a SNAP Electronic Benefits Transfer card will receive admission for $2 per person for up to four people.

“By participating in the Museums for All program, we hope to increase the accessibility of museum learning resources to a significant underserved population in our area,” said Velvet Cool, the TMS board president, in a press release.

The TMS museums join more than 250 institutions— such as children’s museums, art museums and zoos—that participate in this program, which is run by the Association of Children’s Museums and Institute of Museum and Library Sciences.

According to the program website, Museum for All goals include encouraging regular, lifelong visits to museums by people with all sorts of backgrounds.

Museums for All sees positive results from such museum visits. “A museum visit can inspire the development of new skills and interests, ignite creativity and enrich social connections,” the program states at its website.

Regular TMS admission is $5 per person or free for those 3 and under. For more information, call the TMS at 903793-4831.
