There are numerous family oriented sporting opportunities in the city of Texarkana. The 42-mile radius which makes up the area is filled with athletic possibilities.

On the Arkansas side of town,

Arkansas High dominates the realm. The Razorbacks compete in six sports in both girls and boys athletics. The Hogs are in Conference 5A and governed under the Arkansas Activities Association. AHS plays a majority of its home football games at Razorbacks Field, the basketball team plays at Razorback Gym and the baseball team plays behind the football field, aptly named Razorback Field.

The city’s western half is a slightly different dynamic.

On the Texas side of town, you have access to three high schools, all of which are extremely successful in athletics.

In 2017, Pleasant Grove won the Class 4A Division II football championship. With PG’s win, it gave all four city schools championship titles in football and baseball.

All of the schools on the Texas side of town are governed by the University Interscholastic League.

Pleasant Grove competes in 10 scholastic sports collectively between the Hawks and Lady Hawks.

Hawk Field is home to PG football and soccer games, while the basketball team plays at Hawk Gym.

Texas High, which is the biggest high school in the city, is renovating Tiger Stadium at Grim Park with new turf for the upcoming season. The Tigers play their basketball games at the Tiger Center and both teams that play on the diamond, play on Tiger Field.

The Liberty-Eylau Leopards, which are adjacent to the other two schools in Bowie County, play their home football games at Harris Field and their basketball games at the Radar Dome.

“I’ve lived here for 40 years and the athletics in the area, per capita, would rank up there with anywhere in the nation,” Texarkana Gazette sports editor Josh Richert said. “Along with outstanding high school athletic programs, which have seen numerous state championships, there are many other exceptional youth sport activities in the area.”

The Twin Cities offers much more than just scholastic athletic entertainment.

The Texarkana Twins are an affiliate of the Texas Collegiate League, which offers college players an outlet to continue playing baseball in the summer months.

Uri Geva is the co-owner of the Twins and also brought the club to this area last year in their inaugural season.

“It’s not just baseball but we’re focused on fun family entertainment,” Geva said. “We’re trying to create memories for a lifetime. We’ve enjoyed being in Texarkana and all of the support we have received from the community.

“When we were looking to expand, we were looking for an area to be a integral piece of summer fun and a contributing member of the community. We have a great field at George Dobson Field and we plan to continue making strides as we go along.”

Texarkana A&M University— Texarkana now offers intercollegiate sports between it’s men’s and women’s sports. The Eagles’ tennis squad made the national tournament in their first season. TAMU-T is also a member of the Red River Athletic Conference, which is a subset of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Both sides of town have thriving baseball and softball leagues, with also up-and-coming youth soccer and football leagues.

American Legion baseball is also a big attraction for baseball in the summer for Texarkana.

On the Texas side, the Texarkana

Senior Bulldogs dominate the circuit for the boys of summer. On the Arkansas

side, the Texarkana Senior Razorbacks provide an opportunity for high school athletes after their school season has ended. The Razorbacks (Post 58) won the American Legion World Series championship in 2016 in Shelby, N.C.
