Texas side, Arkansas side slated to hold joint meeting

Officials from both Texarkanas will discuss protecting local treasures Tuesday.

The Joint Texarkana Community Committee will meet to hear a series of speakers on that theme and discuss cooperatio­n across the state line.

Presenters scheduled for the program include:

■ David W. Orr, Texasside director of planning and community developmen­t;

■ Tyler Richards, Arkansas-side public works director;

■ Mary Beck, Arkansassi­de city planner;

■ Brian Goesl, executive director of Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council;

■ Velvet Hall Cool, board president of Texarkana Museums System;

■ Ina McDowell, executive director of Main Street Texarkana; and

■ Andrew Clark, executive director of Texarkana Symphony Orchestra.

Chamber President Mike Malone will facilitate the meeting, which is open to the public.

An initiative of the Texarkana USA Chamber of Commerce, the committee comprises the mayor and two city council members from each city. The committee is not set up to take any action; its purpose is to share ideas and discuss common challenges facing the two cities.

The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Ark-Tex Council of Government­s, 4808 Elizabeth St.
