Area lawyer selected as nominating chair for Texas Bar Foundation
Texarkana lawyer Josh Thane of the Haltom & Doan law firm has been selected to serve as Texas Bar Foundation 2018 - 2019 Nominating Chair for District 1, according to a press re lease from the Texas Bar Foundation. Nominating chairs for each of the 17 State Bar of Texas districts identify nominees to join the foundation as fellows.
“Nominating chairs of the foundation are selected for their outstanding professional achievements and their demonstrated commitment to the Texas Bar Foundation,” the release states. “Election is a mark of distinction and recognition of Mr. Thane’s contributions to the legal profession.”
Thane is a past president of the Texarkana Bar Association. He has represented clients in more than 100 federal and state court actions in Texas and Arkansas. Thane represents companies in defense of intellectual property rights and other complex commercial litigation.
Selection as a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation is limited to members of the State Bar of Texas. Each year, the top one-third of 1 percent of Texas lawyers are invited to become fellows. Once a nominee is selected, he or she must be elected by the Texas Bar Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Membership has grown from an initial 255 charter members in 1965 to more than 9,500 fellows today.
“If you are a fellow and have a recommendation for a new member, please contact your nominating chair,” the release states.
“The Texas Bar Foundation is the largest charitably funded bar foundation in the country,” the release states. “To date, the Texas Bar Foundation has distributed more than $19 million throughout Texas to assist nonprofit organizations with a wide range of justice-related programs and services.”
