Changing Directions Downtown
■ A Public Works Department employee removes a one-way street sign Thursday at West Third Street and Texas Boulevard in Texarkana, Texas. West Third and West Fourth are now two-way streets, matching East Third and East Fourth on the Arkansas side. The city has placed temporary stop signs at affected intersections. Permanent stop signs will be installed and traffic lights removed. The project included new crosswalks, bicycle-friendly signage and almost 200 new curbside parking spaces. Texarkana, Texas, Police Department stopped multiple drivers Thursday for traveling in the wrong lane and warned them about the new traffic pattern, a spokesman said. After an adjustment period, officers will stop issuing warnings and begin writing citations. “Please be extra careful when you are driving in the downtown area and watch out for that inattentive driver who may not realize what they are doing,” a Wednesday post on the TTPD Facebook page said.
