Texas gets ready for tax-free shopping for back to school

-

Texas’ sales tax-free holiday on certain clothing and school supplies begins today and ends Sunday.

Texas will waive sales tax on many items typically purchased for children about to start a new school year. Adults can take advantage of the savings, as well.

Exempt items include most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100.

The sales tax exemption applies only to qualifying items bought during the sales tax holiday. Items bought before or after the sales tax holiday do not qualify for exemption, and there is no tax refund available.

For more information, visit the Texas comptroller’s website at comptroller. texas.gov.
