Area museum reopens after construction
IDABEL, Okla.—The Museum of the Red River has reopened after a temporary, construction-related July closure.
The majority of the museum’s construction project is scheduled for completion this fall. The multimillion-dollar project includes renovations to most of its existing spaces, as well as new additions. The museum plans to remain open for the remainder of the construction.
The exhibit “Arts of the Southwest” will remain on display until Sept. 2. The exhibit showcases prehistoric, historic and contemporary art from the American Southwest. The exhibit will be followed by “Andean Textiles” on Sept. 13. A smaller show, “Island Spirits,” will be displayed through Oct.
28. It highlights several contemporary objects from the museum’s South Pacific collection.
August and September programs include a free, beginner-level painting class Aug. 25. Participants may drop in or out anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. MORR has also scheduled a beading workshop for Sept. 15 and a weaving class for Sept.

Museum of the Red River is home to 30,000 cultural objects
from six continents and Oklahoma’s State Dinosaur, Acrocanthosaurus atokensis. Its exhibition program includes temporary and permanent displays. The museum also installs offsite exhibits throughout Southeastern Oklahoma and Northeast Texas and offers a range of educational activities in-house and off-site.
