Lady Hawks place second in Longview tournament

LONGVIEW, Texas— Pleasant Grove’s volleyball team won two of their three to finish in second place Saturday at the Longview Tournament.

Natalie Hale had six kills and eight points in the Lady Hawks’ 25-19, 25-18 victory over Hooks.

Against host Longview, Pleasant Grove came out on top, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16, and Grace Pickelman led the way with nine points. Hale finished with 10 kills in the win, and teammates Kaylee Kelley had 12 assists and Georgia Cobb added seven kills.

Lindale was the lone team to defeat the Lady Hawks, a 18-25, 25-20, 25-19 triumph for the Lady Eagles.

Macey Adams and Macy Young each scored eight points for the Lady Hawks, while Sydney Hopkins had 11 digs and Katie Ferguson collected seven kills.

Hopkins and Hale were each selected to the all-tournament team.

Lady Lions win title game

PARIS, Texas—New Boston was unscathed after three games on Saturday and came out on top at the Paris Chisum Tournament.

The Lady Lions defeated North Lamar JV, 25-18, 25-10, in the championsh­ip game to win the tournament crown. Carlee Ratcliff finished with eight points.

Ratcliff led the team with nine points against Lone Oak as New Boston turned out a 25-18, 25-15 victory.

Against Wolfe City, Lauren Daniel scored 11 points and New Boston won, 25-16, 25-12.

PG frosh win tourney

LONGVIEW, Texas— Pleasant Grove’s junior varsity team fell twice, but it was the ninth-graders who made the most noise Saturday at the Spring Hill Tournament.

The freshman came out on the final day and won three straight to claim the tournament championsh­ip with a 25-20, 25-22, win over White Oak in the title game.

Isabelle Hackleman and Lucy Woodman led the young Lady Hawks with 10 points each and teammates Addison Alexander and Peyton Matthews scored nine apiece.

Pleasant Grove’s junior varsity squad won their first game, 25-19, 25-8, against Elysian Fields, but fell short to Tyler Lee and White Oak.

TENNIS THS wins season-opener

Texas High opened up its fall season with a quality 10-2—14-5 overall—win over Frisco Liberty, which was the team that defeated it last year.

In boys singles, Griffin Johnson lost to Sarvesh Ram, 2-6, 2-6; Quinn Sanders defeated Srujan Dommeti, 6-2. 6-4; Walker Trippe defeated yatin Pokle, 6-0, 5-7, 10-3; Rhett Young lost to Keshaw Naraimham, 2-6, 0-6; Landon Durham lost to Sid Gaddam, 1-6, 3-6; and Jebin Justin defeated Ajay Esukapalli.

In girls singles, Tirzah Bailey defeated Sophia Boutouis, 6-3, 6-1; Cayli Clack defeated Anushk Sinha, 6-2, 6-4; Janie Rounds defeated Mehak Kaul, 6-0, 6-2; Reagan Potts lost to Bonnie Wu, 6-7, 3-6; Shreya Kurichety defeated Tracy Nguyen, 6-4, 7-6; and Mallari McClaran defeated Kayla Baker, 8-4.

In boys doubles, Sanders and Trippe defeated Rom and Dommeti, 6-0, 6-2; Johnson and Durham lost to Marasimnam­y and Pokle, 2-6, 4-6; Justin and Young defeated Heldman and Gaddam, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8; Nick Mitchell and Grant Mitchell lost to Brown and Wang, 3-8; and Burrus Moss and Haak Chesshir lost to Brown and Wang, 5-8.

In girls doubles, Bailey and Rounds defeated Boutouis and Sinha, 5-4, 6-1; Potts and McClaran defeated Wu and Kaul, 6-3, 6-0; Clack and Kurichety defeated Baker and Nguyen, 6-2, 6-2; and Madison Stanfill and Abby Elliott won, 9-8.

In mixed doubles, Conner Elliot and Macie Webb defeated Graff and Sukapalli, 6-2, 6-3; and Kenichi Pass and Mackenzie Dobbins also won.
