Maud man charged in several burglaries

-

A Maud, Texas, man has been arrested in Bowie County on burglary and evading-arrest charges.

Steven Trinidad Montoya Jr., 33, was arrested and taken to the Bi-State jail. He has been arrested on charges of burglary of a habitation, three counts of burglary of a vehicle and evading arrest. His bonds were later set at $25,000 for burglary of a habitation, $10,000 for each charge of burglary of a vehicle and $5,000 for evading arrest, said Capt. Jeff Neal, chief deputy of the BCSO.

About noon Tuesday, Bowie County Sheriff ’s Deputy Michelle Carrier was on her way to a call about a possible auto theft when dispatch told her about a burglary in progress in the 100 block of County Road 1204 in Maud, Neal said.

The woman who made the report said there was a man wearing blue jeans and a sleeveless shirt in her kitchen. The woman was able to get her child and herself safely out their home and into their vehicle. They left their property when the suspect came out of their home and got into another vehicle in the driveway. This is where Carrier found the suspect when she arrived, Neal said.

The suspect tried to hide in this vehicle as Carrier gave him commands, Neal said. He refused to follow any of her commands, and she reportedly noticed that he was sweating profusely and his behavior was erratic. At one point the man tried to flee, but Carrier stopped him, Neal said.

A neighbor, Ronald Pippen, came out of his home and helped Carrier hold the suspect until another deputy could arrive, Neal said. When Deputy Brady Cooper arrived, the man was taken into custody. Items stolen from the home he was originally found in, as well as those from three vehicle burglaries, were allegedly found on him.
