Pleasant Grove goes 2-1 in Tyler

TYLER, Texas—Pleasant Grove won two of three matches Friday in the Tyler Invitation­al Volleyball Tournament, losing only to one of the state’s No. 1 teams.

The Lady Hawks defeated West Mesquite, 28-26, 25-23, lost to Class 5A’s top-ranked team, Lindale, 25-22, 25-19, and then rebounded to beat Brownsboro, 25-19, 25-16, in Pool G play.

Macey Adams served 1o points to spark Pleasant Grove against West Mesquite and teammate Kaylee Kelley had eight points and eight assists.

In the loss to powerhouse Lindale, which went 3-0 in pool play, the Hawks were paced by Grace Pickelman (12 digs), Katie Ferguson (six kills), Sydney Hopkins (seven digs) and Kelley (seven assists).

Adams again ignited PG with 12 points in the win over Brownsboro and Madi Morris had five kills.

Bracket play in the 32-team, three-day event will begin at 8 a.m. today. The gold and bronze brackets will be played at the Robert E. Lee High School gymnasium and the silver and consolatio­n brackets at the Boulter Middle School gym.

Leopards best Redwater

REDWATER, Texas—Liberty-Eylau’s volleyball squad defeated Redwater on the road in three sets, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20.

Daycoria Meadows led the Lady Leopards with 15 service points and eight kills and Keeley Norris added 12 kills.

Karlee Carmony led the Lady Dragons with six service points and nine kills. Keeley Wilbur contribute­d 17 assists and Bella Fernandez ended the match with 12 digs.

Paris Chisum defeats Maud

PARIS, Texas—Paris Chisum defeated Maud in four sets at home, 25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 25-12.

Haley Yates led the Lady Cardinals with nine service points and 26 assists. Brianna Barnette ended with six points and 16 digs. Makenna Jones finished with 15 kils and Riley Murphy contribute­d 16 kills.
