Texas High vs. Pflugerville Hendrickson

-

KICKOFF: 7 p.m., Lumpkins Stadium, Waxahachie.

LAST YEAR: This is the first meeting between the schools.

GAME FACTS: Texas High faces a potent Hawks’ team, which advanced to the Class 6A, Division I regional finals last season, to start the year. The Tigers graduated seven starters on defense and will have to contend with three-year starting quarterback Blaine Barker for Hendrickson, which was 10-4 in 2017. Texas High was 7-4 in its first season under Gerry Stanford. The Tigers return seven starters on offense for the 2018 campaign. Lumpkins Stadium is the home stadium of the Waxahachie Indians and Southwest Assemblies of God University. Its location is 600 Indian Drive, Waxahachie, Texas. This is the only neutral site game Texas High has on its regular season schedule, and THS is at home next week to host Arkansas High in the annual Battle of the Axe.

COACH’S COMMENTS: Texas High’s Stanford—“The number one thing, as a staff, that we’ve talked about with the kids, is playing together, collectively, with great effort. Good things and bad things are going to happen, just can we stick together throughout the night, as a team. We know we’ve got a really tough opponent, but that’s what we want this time of year. We want to see where we need to improve, and teams like this are going to show us where we need to get better. The question is, can we give

great enough effort to give ourselves a chance?

“Hendrickson is coming into this game with pretty much everybody back from last year, and on top of that, they’re very talented. They’ve got a core group of talent, a quarterback who’s started for almost three years now, does a really good job of running their offense, and a defensive line that’s as good as anybody’s.”
