Redwater suffers 43-6 defeat to Waskom

REDWATER, Texas—Highly touted Waskom scored in every quarter, including 21 in the second period, to defeat Redwater, 43-6, in the season opener for both teams Friday night at Dragons Stadium.

Redwater actually outgained the Wildcats 184-123 in yards total offense, but the Dragons suffered three turnovers—all on fumbles. All of Waskom’s yardage came on the ground while Redwater had 109 rushing an 75 through the airways.

Waskom took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on T.K Hamilton’s 28-yard TD run, and then tacked on three second-period touchdowns to take a 28-0 halftime lead. Hamilton added two more TDs on runs of 12 and 2 yards for the Wildcats, who went 9-5 last year.

Redwater’s touchdown came on Garrett Johnson’s 5-yard run in the third quarter, making the score 36-6.

Linden-Kildare 40, Hooks 27

HOOKS, Texas—After trailing at halftime, the Tigers went on a 20-7 rally in the second half to top the host Hornets by two TDs in both team’s season opener.

Hooks held a 20-19 lead at intermissi­on, but L-K grabbed the lead with a score in the third and then added two more in the fourth. Hooks scored once more in the fourth quarter.

Union Grove 20, James Bowie 0

SIMMS, Texas—Coach Eddy May’s return to James Bowie was spoiled by a 20-0 loss to Union Grove.

The Pirates racked up 192 yards on the ground and doubled up the visitors on first downs, 14-7, but couldn’t get much going other than that.

The Lions scored on a 12-yard run, a 30-yard pass and a 95-yard fumble return.

James Bowie (0-1) will travel to Harleton next Friday to challenge the Wildcats.
