Pleasant Grove
LAST WEEK: The Hawks shut out
Paris, 20-0, in the second half, en route to a one-sided, 30-10 victory.
THIS WEEK: Pleasant Grove hosts District 10-4A Henderson.
OFFENSIVE STANDOUTS: RB Bruce Garrett led the Hawks in rushing with 103 yards on 18 carries. Nick Martin, quarterback Ben Harmon and fullback James Wiggins each had short rushing touchdowns for Pleasant Grove.
DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS: DE Landon Jackson caused havoc in the backfield and made the hit on the punter that rocked the ball loose. Kamren Woods recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a touchdown and had a great game defending the pass in the secondary.
COACH JOSH GIBSON’S COMMENTS: “We’re young and we have a lot of kids injured right now. We have other kids stepping up. This game is indicative of where our program is at. Paris is so athletic and talented, and I am proud of where we are. We played resilient with a lot of belief.
“Our coaches preach a lot about doing the right thing and not to be reactionary. I feel like we are carry ourselves in a composed way. We looked like a championship-style team for just the way we handled ourselves. They are great kids with great
parents, and our coaches do a great job of teaching life lessons each day. I think it says a lot about PG and our community. I thought we played physical football even though we shot ourselves in the foot some. On defense, we were laying down some good licks. I was fired up about our physicality. We are focused on getting better every week, and I think people will see this team getting better each week.”
