University foundation establishes an endowed scholarship fund
The Texas A&M University Foundation’s Board of Directors is establishing an endowed scholarship fund where the board will be matching contributions on a dollar-for-dollar basis, up to $1 million.
The Texas A&M University Texarkana Foundation endowed scholarship fund was announced Tuesday at the university.
The 27 members of the Foundation Board have collectively committed to using their own personal funds to match the contributions.
University President Emily Cutrer said the endowment will be an amazing opportunity for the university and its students.
“We are elated about this new scholarship campaign. The fact that these men and women have committed up to a million dollars of their own money is a fantastic example of the kind of support we have from members of the community,” she said. “I can’t think of a better way to kick off homecoming than an announcement as wonderful as this one.”
About one-third of A&M-Texarkana’s students are first generation college students and most need some type of financial aid, said Scott Bruner, president of the Texas A&M University Foundation’s Board of Directors.
“We serve because we believe in our students,” he said.
Danny Gray, chair of the scholarship committee, said the establishment of the endowed scholarship should serve as a challenge to the community.
“It’s not a donation but an investment in the community,” Gray said.
Cutrer said generations of students will be grateful for generations and that financial aid is one of the biggest hurdles for Texas A&M University-Texarkana students.
“When you transform the lives of our students, you also transform this community,” she said.
Cutrer said it could take
about two years for the fund to be established.
The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Foundation is dedicated to maximizing private support for the University by assisting with fundraising campaigns and special initiatives while serving as advocates for the University. The Board of Directors is the governing body for the A&M-Texarkana Foundation.
