AHS senior Himes earns bowling scholarship
Success is reaped from hard work.
Arkansas High senior Linda Himes signed her letter of intent to bowl for Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan. Himes has been bowling for 11 years and has earned a fouryear scholarship.
“I like the competition of bowling, and I have grown up around it,” Himes said. “It is a family thing for me. It feels fantastic because I have been working so hard and a college came to me.”
Todd Zenner is the head bowling coach at Kansas Wesleyan. The Coyotes started their competitive bowling program in 2015. Zenner recruited for a year before the university competed competitively.
“We really like her bowling style, and she brings a lot of knowledge and tournament experience to our group,” Zenner said. “She fit the mold of a student looking for a smaller campus to attend. We have 12 ladies on the bowling team and are looking for 18 total so that
we can have three teams.
“We are excited about Linda. Her style and game are similar to a very powerful bowler. We are excited to see what she can do on the lanes on the college level. She is also very good academically.”
Himes is looking forward to the college experience and will major in Business Administration.
“The campus is really nice and feels like home,” Himes said. “It’s a smaller campus so I am really comfortable with it. Coach Zenner is a really cool guy, and I know that he will help me be successful. I will be on his team for four years. I am going to work on being controlled and calm throughout entire bowling tournaments.”
Linda is the daughter of Larry and Stacey Himes.
