Rabbs rumble past Redwater

REDWATER, Texas—Three different Atlanta players scored a pair of touchdowns apiece, helping the Rabbs notch their first win of the season, 54-6 over Redwater Friday at Dragon Stadium.

Jawan King, Tra Nelson and Caleb Hamilton each had a pair of scores for Atlanta (1-4, 1-0), which played its first district game in 7-3A, Division I after being 4A for several years.

The Rabbs rushed for 363 yards and finsihed with 532 yards of total offense on 48 snaps. Redwater (0-5, 0-1) finsihed with 157 yards of offense and lost two fumbles.

King had a 16-yard TD run and caught a 76-yard strike from Andrew Samples, who also threw a 39-yard touchdown to Joshua Edwards.

Nelson had scoring runs of 48 and 3 yards, and Hamilton ran for TDs covering 68 and 33 yards in the second quarter, when teh Rabbs broke open a 14-6 game to take a 35-6 lead into halftime.

Fernando Campos booted six PATs, and Jordan Stiger plunged in from the 1 in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.

Jackson Feemster had a 20-yard TD jaunt for the Dragons late in the first quarter, but the kick failed and Atlanta rattled off 47 unanswered points to close the game.

Linden-Kildare 57, Harleton 8

HARLETON, Texas— Linden-Kildare running back Ladavion Johnson rushed for 179 yards and six touchdowns to post a 57-8 romp over out-manned Harleton in the District 11-2A, Division I opener for both teams.

Johnson rushed 17 times (averaging 10.5 yards per carry) and scored on runs of 28, 1, 5, 8, 3 and 77 yards for the unbeaten Tigers (5-0).

The Tigers have now scored a whopping 247 points in their five wins this season, averaging 49.4 points a game. They have allowed 99 in those games (19.8 average).

The two teams battled to an 8-8 tie after one period, but L-K took command with a 37-0 second quarter and a 45-8 halftime cushion.

The Wildcats actually scored first when Drew Stafford hauled in an 18-yard scoring strike from Garrett Handlin.

The Tigers answered back with Red Tyson hauling in Jacob Owens’ 12-yard toss. Owens also connected with Johnson for the tying 2-point conversion.

Johnson scored four of his touchdowns in the second quarter, helping stake the Tigers to a 45-8 halftime lead. Between TD Nos. 3 and 4, Owens threw a 10-yard scoring dart to Ty Patterson.

Linden-Kildare piled up 409 yards of total offense and limited the Wildcats to 131 yards. L-K also intercepte­d three Harleton passes and recovered four fumbles by the Wildcats.

The host Wildcats fall to 1-4 with the loss.

Paul Pewitt 30, Ore City 22

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas— Paul Pewitt built a 30-13 halftime lead and fought off Ore City in the second half as the Brahmas (4-1) opened District 11-3A, Division II play with a 30-22 win over the Rebels (2-3).

Pewitt finished with 309 yards total offense, all of the ground. Ore City managed 355 total yards, with 290 coming via the airways.

Kadrien Johnson scored the Brahmas’ first touchdown on a 42-yard run and Cross Holder ran for the 2-point conversion to give the hosts an 8-7 lead. La-Jathan Allen tacked on a 13-yard scoring run and Holder passed to Dylan Bouldin for a 16-7 advantage at the first break.

Holder added a 1-yard sneak and Allen an 11-yard run for Pewitt’s second-quarter touchdowns. Holder kicked both PATs.

Ore City scored the game’s final nine points in the second half.
