Sooners’ Kyler Murray embraces Heisman hype

NORMAN, Okla.— Oklahoma quarterbac­k Kyler Murray is comfortabl­e with all that comes with being a Heisman Trophy contender—it’s why the first-round Major League Baseball draft choice put off his baseball career.

In his first season as a starter, Murray ranks second in the nation in passing efficiency behind Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. He has better numbers than Baker Mayfield produced during the first five games of his Heisman-winning season last year.

QUEEN CITY, Texas—Queen City’s varsity volleyball squad swept Hooks in three sets Tuesday night at Bulldog Gym, 28-26, 25-12, 25-23.

Jayley Stringer led the Lady Bulldogs with 13 service points.

QC won the first junior varsity match with the Lady Hornets, 25-16, 25-11.

The Bulldogs defeated the Hooks in the second junior varsity match, 15-25, 25-19, 25-17.

DeKalb falls to New Boston

NEW BOSTON, Texas—New Boston swept DeKalb on Tuesday night at Lion Gym, 25-18, 25-11, 25-21.

Sydnee McDaniel led the Lady Bears with eight service points, and Kynli Holder finished with seven kills.

Carrie Almond added seven kills for DeKalb.

New Boston won the first junior varsity match with DeKalb, 25-13, 25-22.

Chloe Stringer led the Bears with four service points.

DeKalb won the second junior varsity match with New Boston, 25-19, 25-13.

Anna-Claire Raulston led the Bears with 13 service points.

Waskom tops Daingerfie­ld

WASKOM, Texas—Daingerfie­ld fell to Waskom on Tuesday in four sets, 26-24, 23-25, 25-17, 25-23.

Kiara Robinson led the Lady Tigers with five blocks, four kills and one dig.

Daingerfie­ld won the first junior varsity match with Waskom, 25-14, 25-18.

Madison Abbott led Daingerfie­ld with 18 aces.

The Tigers defeated Waskom in the second junior varsity match in three sets, 25-13, 11-25, 25-23.

TaQuasia Latchinson and Jahkayla Daddy contribute­d five kills each for the Tigers.

TENNIS Razorbacks finish 4th

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.—Arkansas High’s boys and girls tennis teams competed in the Conference 5A South tennis tournament on Monday and Tuesday.

Both teams finished in fourth place. Individual­ly, Nate Price finished 3-1, earning third place. Price also qualified for the state tournament on Oct. 8 at Hot Springs Lakeside.

Tigers topple Greenville

GREENVILLE, Texas—The Texas High varsity tennis team defeated Greenville, 18-1.

The Tigers are back in action on Friday, traveling to Rockwall.
