PG tightens grip on first place

Pleasant Grove stayed unbeaten and in sole possession of first place in the District 15-4A volleyball race with a straight-set victory over Paris in Hawk Gym Friday.

The Lady Hawks won, 25-19, 25-21, 25-15.

Pleasant Grove improves to 20-13 for the season and 4-0 in district while the Lady Wildcats dip to 15-13, 2-2.

Grace Pickelman fueled the Hawks with 15 service points and 15 digs. Macey Adams also contribute­d a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs.

Other PG standouts were Madi Morris with eight kills, Sydney Hopkins 12 digs, Kaylee Kelley and Macey Young 10 set assists each, and Natalie Hale five blocks.

The Hawks’ dropped the junior varsity and freshmen matches. In the JV contest, Paris won, 25-19, 25-19. Alley Grace Harjo served 10 points for the hosts.

The Wildcats won the ninthgrade match, 25-18, 23-25, 17-15. PG’s Lucy Woodman scored 10 points and Isabelle Hackleman and Halli Meredith added nine points apiece.

Pleasant Grove, which holds a one-game lead over second place North Lamar (24-9, 3-1), travels to crosstown Liberty-Eylau on Tuesday.

Tigers rally in five

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas— Sulphur Springs threw an early scare into Texas High, but the Lady Tigers treated themselves to their fifth straight District 15-5A victory.

Texas High, which had to rally from a 2-1 deficit, rallied to win in five sets, 19-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 15-8.

The Tigers picked up their 20th win (nine losses) and stay in first place with a 5-0 record. The host Lady Wildcats fall to 25-11, 1-4.

Texas High leaders included: Kaitlyn Cross (15 points), 12 kills, 11 blocks); Treyaunna Rush (27 digs, 26 assists, 12 kills, 11 digs); Shakeria Webb (13 kills, six blocks); Vicki Willis (13 points); Mia Wilson (22 points), 16 digs); and Olivia Lower (11 points, 10 digs, eight kills, six blocks).

Sulphur Springs won the JV match, 25-23, 25-15, with Lauren Allred serving 12 points for THS.

The hosts also won the ninthgrade match, 25-18, 25-11. Lizzie Smith had eight points for the Tigers.

Texas High travels to Greenville on Tuesday.

Leopards fall in three

North Lamar defeated Liberty Eylau in three sets in Ditrict 15-4A play in the Rader Dome, 25-23, 25-17, 25-20.

Mariah Coleman led the Lady Leopards (14-9, 1-3) with 10 service points and Daycoria Meadows and Tamara Norris added eight each.

The Lady Wildcats (24-9, 3-1) remain in second place in district behind league leader Pleasant Grove (20-13, 4-0). Liberty-Eylau hosts the front-running Lady Hawks on Tuesday.

Maud falls to Detroit

MAUD, Texas—Maud dropped a three-set match to Detroit in District 17-2A play on the Lady Cardinals’ home court, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16.

Maud (12-17, 4-4) was paced by Brynn Sultz with eight points and seven digs, Makenna Jones added 12 kills and Haley Yates 21 assists and five points.

Callie Jaynes topped the Lady Eagles with 13 service points.

Detroit also won the junior varsity match, 28-26, 25-18.

Macey McDonald served eight points and Jordan Jones seven for the Cardinals while Mackenzie Miller had eight for Detroit.

Maud hosts Linden Kildare in a non-district match Tuesday.

DeKalb downs Pewitt

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas— DeKalb swept Paul Pewitt in three sets with the Lady Bears winning 25-19, 25-23, 25-19.

DeKalb’s leading server was Kynli Holder with 14 points, including six aces, and Hope Murphy followed with 13 points.

Other Bear standouts were Kynli Holder with 15 kills and Evette Martinez with 12 assists.

DeKalb is now 1-6 in District 14-3A play while Pewitt slips to 0-7.

The Bears will host Hooks on Tuesday.
