Feeling a draught

Citizens enjoy dining, drinks at annual event

- By Greg Bischof

The chance to enjoy outdoor dining in early evening twilight encouraged between 500 to 900 residents to take part in some food, fun and music during 2018 Dine on the Line on Saturday.

This year, the downtown’s fourth annual feast and fundraiser for Main Street Texarkana drew about 70 vendors—easily twice as many as last year, said Dine on the Line Events Coordinator Stacy Mayo.

“This year, we sold more then 450 tickets so we just decided to invite people to come out and all they would have to do is pay for some food,” she said. “This year, we have people coming from as far away as Little Rock and Sulphur Springs.”

One of the vendors this year was Young Living Essential Oils.

“We decided to try our first year at this and come on out to this event,” said Donya Howard who, along with her partner, Susan Patterson, marketed the homebased business health and wellness products. “We had never been to a Dine on the Line event before, and so far, we’ve met a lot of nice people out here and we are looking at coming back again next year.”

This year, local resident Emily Gammon brought out some homemade clothing to sell.

“I love downtown and I like supporting this whole area,” she said.

Wake Village resident Harold Williams said this was his second year to come out to the event.

“I think it’s wonderful to see a community come together like this and help build up downtown,” he said.

Local resident Jimmy “Smitty” Smith, agreed.

“I like the idea that Main Street has always had when it comes to taking old buildings and encouraging businesses to either buy or rent the structures—while at the same time keeping the historical look of them as intact as possible,” he said.
