Robinson overcomes Nashville, 39-25

- By Bob Krayl

NASHVILLE, Ark.— Nashville’s Carmillias Morrisson electrified a large Homecoming crowd with an 80-yard touchdown run, but Joe T. Robinson quickly rebounded for a 21-7 halftime advantage, and went on to post a 39-25 Conference 7-4A victory Friday night at Scrapper Stadium.

Robinson, Class 4A’s No. 2 ranked team out of Little Rock, raises its record to 6-1 (3-0 in conference). Nashville, ranked No. 3, falls to 5-1, 2-1.

It was the Senators’ sixth straight win following a season-opening loss to Class 7A Springdale (48-28).

Every time the Scrappers drew close in the second half, the Senators responded to increase their lead by more than a touchdown.

Nashville scored first, but Robinson scored three more times to lead at intermission.

The Scrappers scored on their third possession when Morrisson dashed up the middle, broke loose at the 30 and went the rest of the way for an 80-yard TD.

Robinson responded by marching 80 yards in just five plays. Mekel Kentle scored from 20 yards out to tie the game.

The Senators scored again when Tyler Jones made a 6-yard run with 1:45 left in the first period.

The visitors increased their lead to 21-7 when Greyson Tackett sneaked across on a 4-yard TD run.

Including Friday’s game, the past three meetings between Nashville and Robinson have produced a combined 167 points scored.

The Scrappers started on the comeback trail early in the second half when Dontrelle Robinson broke loose on a 54-yard run to the 1-yard line where Ty Gordon scored to make the score, 21-13.

Nashville pulled to within, 21-19, when Devay Ragland hauled in a 44-yard pass from Jake Moorer.

The Senators then drove down to the Nashville 3-yard line. The Scrappers got a big break when the quarterback fumbled the handoff, and Nashville recovered at the 4-yard line.

Robinson soon added a safety when Moorer ran out of the end zone for a 23-19 advantage.

A 42-yard touchdown run by Tackett increased the Senators’ lead to 30-19.

Again, Nashville drew close, 30-25, on a 5-yard run by Keyshawn Stewart.

Robinson dashed Nashville’s comeback hopes when Traveon James scored on a 43-yard pass from Tackett to increase its lead to 36-25, and Trent Eskola closed out the scoring with a 21-yard field goal.
