Trojans rally to defeat De Queen, 22-10

DE QUEEN, Ark.— Hot Springs rallied from behind with a pair of late fourth-quarter scores as the Trojans upended De Queen, 22-10, in Conference 5A-South football action Friday night.

Both teams are now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in conference. Four teams are 1-2 in league play, with Hope and Hot Springs Lakeside joining in. Only Magnolia (0-3) is winless in conference play this season.

The Trojans held a precarious 9-7 advantage entering the final quarter.

The Leopards’ Honorio Dominguez drilled a 45-yard field goal to give the hosts a short-lived 10-9 lead with 7:38 left to play.

The visitors later pulled away when Aaron Williams scored on a 3-yard run and Eddie Miles returned an intercepti­on 41 yards to seal the victory. Both scores came in the game’s final 4:33 of action.

De Queen jumped out to

a 7-0 first-quarter lead on Marquez Ester’s 16-yard run and Dominguez’s extrapoint kick.

Hot Springs answered in the second period on Billy Alverez’s 32-yard field goal, leaving the Leopards ahead at intermissi­on 7-3.

De Queen suffered three intercepti­ons on the night and also lost a fumble.

Arkansas High (3-0) and Little Rock McLelland (3-0), both state-ranked, lead the conference and will clash next Friday at Razorback Stadium in Texarkana.

Garrison 49, Linden-Kildare 35

LINDEN, Texas—Garrison scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to break a 35-all tie and go on to record a crucial 49-35 District 11-2A, Division II win over previously unbeaten LindenKild­are Friday at Jack Hetheringt­on Tiger Stadium.

The host Tigers fall to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in district, while Garrison climbs to 4-2, 2-0. The Bulldogs extended their winning streak to four games in a row.

Garrison scored the final two touchdowns in a span of just over a minute. Sabastion Porter tallied his fifth touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run with 6:51 left to play. Less than a minute later at 5:58, Eddie Miles picked off an L-K pass and returned it 41 yards for the final score.

The Bulldogs built a 20-14 halftime lead before L-K rallied with a 21-15 third-quarter to knot the score at 35.

The Tigers’ touchdowns came on Ladavion Johnson’s runs of 55 and 4 yards, quarterbac­k Jacob Owen’s passes to Ty Patterson (12 yards) and Marquise Jones (53 yards), and Owen’s 59-yard scamper.

Garrison rolled up 503 yards total offense while L-K managed 404.

Lions win in 5 set thriller

ATLANTA, Texas—It took five sets, but New Boston escaped with a District 14-3A victory over the host Lady Rabbits on Friday.

The Lady Lions won 22-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18, 17-15.

New Boston’s Carlee Ratcliff had 19 service points and 25 digs, Morgan McAlexande­r 19 kills, Carleigh Reeves eight kills and Grace Duffer 29 assists.

New Boston plays next Friday at Paul Pewitt.
