JOHN WOODS, JR.

Mr. John Edmond Woods, Jr., age 43, of Lavaca, Arkansas, formerly of Prescott, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Mr. Woods was born in Hope, Arkansas on July 11, 1975 to John Edmond Woods Sr. and Vickey Wood.

His most recent assignment was Professor of Military Science of the ROTC program at the University of Arkansas at Ft. Smith. He was a military veteran with over 26 years of service, including a tour to Iraq of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a Major in the U.S. Army, and in his years of service acquired many medals and badges. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Assault Badge, Sniper Qualification, Airborne Badge, Governors Twenty Badge, and multiple other service and achievement awards. He was a graduate of Henderson State University in Arkadelphia with a BSE. He also attended the Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his father, John Edmond Woods, Sr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 23 years, Rhonda Simmons Woods of Lavaca, AR, mother Vickey Woods of Prescott, AR, three sons, Alexander Woods, Nicholas Woods, and John Edmond Woods III all of Lavaca, AR, daughter Haley Woods of Lavaca, AR, two sisters, Sharlene Jones of Albuquerque, N.M., Victoria Woods from Magnolia, AR, In-laws Johnny Ray and Kathy Simmons of Dierks, AR, Brother-in-law Danny Ray Simmons of Dierks, two nieces, two nephews, and many friends and loved ones.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, October 12, 2018 at BRAZZEL/ Cornish Funeral Home, 1196 Hwy. 371, West Prescott, AR.

Funeral service with full military honors will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Church of Christ in Prescott with Mr. John Ratliff officiating.
