Server paces Lady Hawks’ win

Pleasant Grove’s Ella Nichols was in the zone Friday as she served 29 winners to spark the Lady Hawks to a straight-set victory over Pittsburg in District 15-4A varsity volleyball action at Hawk Gym.

District-leading Pleasant Grove won 25-4, 25-6, 25-15.

The Hawks (21-13) remain undefeated in league play at 6-0 while the Lady Pirates (16-17) stay winless at 0-6.

Other Pleasant Grove leaders were Kaylee Kelley with 15 points and seven assists, Macey Adams 10 kills, Grace Pickelman 11 digs and Macy Young seven assists.

The Hawks also won the junior varsity and freshmen matches to complete the sweep. The hosts won the JV contest, 25-14, 25-21, with Alley Grace Harjo leading the way with 12 service points.

Lucy Woodman served 12 winners to lead PG’s ninth grade to a 25-11, 21-25, 25-19 win.

Pleasant Grove will be open Tuesday and return to district action next Friday at (Paris) North Lamar.

New Boston sweeps Pewitt

OMAHA-NAPLES, Texas— Front-running New Boston defeated Paul Pewitt in three sets in District 14-3A play, winning 25-9, 25-21, 25-16.

The Lady Lions improve to 19-6 overall and 8-1 in league play, but the Lady Brahmas remain winless in district at 0-8. Second-place Redwater (19-7, 7-2) was idle Friday.

Carlee Ratcliff led the Lions with 14 service points and 21 digs. Grace Duffer added 20 assists and Morgan McAlexande­r finished with 13 kills. Tamiya Smith contribute­d six kills for New Boston and Emma Holland added five kills.

Sissy Jones paced the Brahmas with seven service points (two aces), 11 assists and six digs, Hannah McGee had 10 digs and Emily Cole three points and two digs.

New Boston entertains Hooks in another district match Tuesday, and Pewitt is open. Redwater plays at DeKalb on Tuesday.

QC rallies past Bears

QUEEN CITY, Texas—Queen City and DeKalb went to the maximum five sets, with the host Lady Bulldogs pulling out the District 14-3A victory.

Queen City (19-11, 6-3) beat the Lady Bears (3-17, 0-8), 11-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 15-10.

DeKalb leaders were Hope Murphy with 14 points, Evette Martinez 10 points and 17 assists, Kynli Holder 18 kills and 15 assists, Aniyah Johnson 12 kills, and Carrie Almond 11 digs and four blocks.

The Bears’ next match is at home Tuesday against Redwater. It will be DeKalb’s Senior Night.

Ore City tops Daingerfie­ld in 5

DAINGERFIE­LD, Texas— Daingerfie­ld fell to Ore City in five sets at Tiger Gym, 25-23, 20-25, 15-25, 25-17, 15-11.

Kiara Robinson led the Lady Tigers with seven kills and 12 blocks, while teammate Jaclyn Garrett added eight kills, eight digs, six assists and three blocks.

Ashlyn Bruch contribute­d three kills for Daingerfie­ld and Lemerica Alexander ended with three blocks with two kills.
