Pirates deconstruc­t Wildcats

SIMMS, Texas—James Bowie built a 28-13 halftime lead and rode a 28-0 second half to blow out Mount Enterprise, 56-13, in the District 10-2A, Division II opener for both teams Friday night at Pirate Stadium.

With the win the Pirates even their overall record at 3-3 while the visiting Wildcats tumble to 2-4.

Running back Ty Watts rushed for 135 yards and four touchdowns for James Bowie, which rolled up 503 yards total offense, including 439 on the ground. Watts carried the ball 20 times and scored on runs of 78, 1, 7 and 6 yards.

Pirate teammate Duncan Hammonds added 133 yards rushing on 11 totes, scoring a TD on a 5-yard run. JB quarterbac­k Evan Barron also passed 29 yards to Tyler Crabtree for a score.

The Pirates final two touchdowns came in the fourth quarter on runs by Ethan Feilds (31 yards) and Jesse Mooneyham (6 yards).

James Bowie’s defense, which limited the visitors to 202 yards total offense, also came up with two turnovers.

Paul Pewitt 18, New Diana 7

NAPLES-OMAHA, Texas—After a closely contested first half, the Brahmas pulled away late by shutting out the Eagles in the second half while scoring 12 points.

The Brahmas improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in District 2-3A, Division II while the Eagles dip to 1-5, 1-2.

Mount Enterprise scored first in the second quarter on an 87-yard pass from Braden Rosales to Jacob Choyce.

It was all Pewitt from there as quarterbac­k Cross Holder had TD completion­s of 90 and 64 yards, both for touchdowns. Kadrien Johnson and L-Jathan Allen caught the scores. Allen also scored on a 13-yard run.

The Brahma defense also forced five turnovers, including recovering three of six fumbles.

Joaquin 35, Linden-Kildare 28

JOAQUIN, Texas—Jacob Owen threw for 257 yards on 18-of-28 passing and four touchdowns, but Joaquin defeated Linden-Kildare in a District 11-2A, Division I game.

Ty Patterson caught three of Owen’s touchdown passes on catches of 4, 68 and 3 yards. Ladavion Johnson rushed for 59 yards on 18 carries and grabbed a 38-yard TD pass.

The Rams outrushed the Tigers, 405-59, while the Tigers trumped the Rams in the air, 257-0.

Linden-Kildare falls to 5-2 overall and 1-2 in district while Joaquin climbs to 5-1, 1-1.
