Hor­nets sting Lions, 14-6

NEW BOS­TON, Texas—Hooks used two sec­ond-half touch­downs to de­feat ri­val New Bos­ton, 14-6, in a District 7-3A, Divi­sion I foot­ball game Fri­day night at Lion Sta­dium.

The Hor­nets (4-2, 2-0) trailed 6-0 at half­time be­fore scor­ing a touch­down in the third and fourth quar­ters. The host Lions fall to 0-7, 0-3.

New Bos­ton went up 6-0 in the open­ing quar­ter on Kevon Thomp­son’s 2-yard touch­down run. The 2-point con­ver­sion run was stopped short.

Hooks went ahead with seven sec­onds left in the third quar­ter when Marc Reiter hauled in a 17-yard scor­ing strike from Con­nor Price. Reiter kicked the go-ahead ex­tra point for a 7-6 lead.

Ma­son Vasquez sealed the win with a 4-yard touch­down run with 5:27 left in the game. Reiter’s PAT kick made the fi­nal score 14-6.

The Hor­nets fin­ished with 365 yards to­tal of­fense while the Lions had 193. Hooks also re­cov­ered two fum­bles while New Bos­ton re­cov­ered one.

GOLF

Tigers in 13th af­ter one round

Texas High’s boys golf team is in 13th place af­ter post­ing a team score of 321 af­ter the first round of the Tiger Clas­sic at Texarkana Coun­try Club.

Will Pat­ter­son and Carter Maneth each carded a 76 for Texas High.

Other Tiger scores were Jack Wil­son with an 85, Cam­den Robert­son with an 86, and Nick Kane with a 90.
