Creepy fall, Halloween goodness,

- By Aaron Brand

If you are searching for ways to celebrate the fall season and Halloween’s spirited spookiness, here are a few options for your consideration.

Of course, many local churches, businesses and community groups host trunk-or-treat events for the kiddos to achieve their glorious morsels of sweet treats. Children in costume can even eat free on Halloween at

Texarkana’s McAlister’s

Deli.

But if a family of parents and little goblins ventures en masse down to Jefferson, Texas, on Saturday, this historic Northeast Texas town has a lot going on that befits the seasonal celebrations with BOO on

the BAYOU, including The Shady Lady Witches performing and dancing at 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the shop Made in the Shade. Get a tarot reading or enjoy an old horror movie shown there in the courtyard at dusk.

Downtown shops and restaurants will host free trick or treating for the youngsters. The city’s historic Howe Truss Train Trestle will be lit in a color fitting for Halloween. The Lone Star Carriage Company

will offer rides in a pumpkin-style carriage. The hourand-a-half long Historic Jefferson Ghost Walk leaves at 8 p.m. on Saturday nights. There’s also a haunted trail of lights to walk.

Noble Oaks Farm on Richmond Road hosts its final weekend of the Annual Fall Festival Saturday (10 a.m. to 7 p.m.) and Sunday (noon to 6 p.m.). Enjoy autumnal goodness, ranging from a human-powered tractor pull to kettle corn, hay rides, a cow train and more.

Those with literary tastes may enjoy the free lecture Dr. Brian Billings provides Sunday at the Texarkana Museums System’s P.J. Ahern Home. Titled “Death and Dying: Influencing Victorian Literature,” the discussion explores the intersection of death, Victorian era customs and literature from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

When it comes to live music, you surely do not have to forsake those good vibes while Halloween festivities abound. Check out the Arrow Bar’s Halloween Bash tonight with an all-star local lineup of rocking indie music: Joe Kennedy, Factory, Merrows, Sylo and Qwilla. Complementing the music is a costume contest with a top prize of $100.

Then on Saturday, Silver Star Smokehouse & Saloon hosts Monsters & Margaritas with the local ivory-tickling duo 2Pianos (that’s Paul Whitt and Josh Lawrence). There’s a costume contest here, too, with a gift card as the prize: food, drinks and live music. Seating is limited for this event, so contact the venue ahead of time.

If you are a haunter of good old Fat Jack’s Oyster and Sports Bar, this storied T-Town nightspot hosts its own Halloween Party with a costume contest and music by 1 Night Stand. Held on Saturday night, this party gets the spookiness started at 9 p.m.
