Nashville man to have pre-trial hearing in manslaughter case

-

A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for Richmond Jacobs, 26, of Nashville, Ark., who was arrested on a manslaughter charge for allegedly causing the death of a 2-year-old boy, according to court records.

The pretrial hearing will be Jan. 9 in the Howard County Circuit Court in Nashville, where Jacobs will enter a plea.

Jacobs remains in the Howard County jail with a $100,000 bond.

The incident was reported about 4:23 p.m. Aug. 26 when Pafford Ambulance Service requested an officer at 902 S. Ansley St. in Nashville.

The 2-year-old boy was unresponsive and CPR was being performed. The child was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital, and later air lifted to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock where he died Aug. 29.

Jacobs said he cares for the child while the mother goes to work, according to court records.

The arrest affidavit states the child was walking to the kitchen to put something in the trash. Jacobs said he heard the child fall and checked on the child, according to court records.

Jacobs said when he picked up the child, a knot was on his forehead. Jacobs said the child seemed fine for several hours after the incident. After giving the child a bath, Jacobs said the child allegedly went into cardiac arrest.

On Aug. 29, 2018 the child was pronounced dead at the Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

The doctors said the child couldn’t have sustained “this kind of injury from a simple fall,” according to the arrest affidavit.

The doctors said the child reportedly had an injury to its liver, two fractures of the pelvis, and a

traumatic brain injury. The medical examiner ruled the child’s death a homicide by blunt force trauma.

A hair follicle test revealed the child had methamphetamine and THC in its system, according to the affidavit.
