JAMIE MARJORIE MARTINDALE HICKERSON

-

Jamie Marjorie Martindale Hickerson, age 89, joined her beloved husband, B. C. Hickerson in their eternal home on Monday, October 29.

Jamie was born on March 10, 1929, in Emmet, AR. She lived the majority of her life in Texarkana, AR, and was a proud graduate of North Heights High School. At North Heights, Jamie caught the eye of the love of her life, B. C. Hickerson. Jamie and B.C. were married September 6, 1947 and spent almost 68 years together before B.C.’s passing in 2015.

In the early years of their marriage, Jamie was a book keeper, but became a homemaker once the children were born. The pride of her life was her family. Between Booster Club lunches for the football teams, baseball tournaments, church activities, and piano recitals, much of Jamie’s time was cooking and keeping the home running.

Once the children were older, Jamie began working at Vera Kilpatrick Elementary, first as a paraprofessional for the Special Education students, then as a Library Clerk, and ultimately becoming the secretary for the school.

Once Jamie and B. C. retired, they found plenty to keep them busy. They enjoyed helping with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, travel, square dancing, dinners with friends and former SWEPCO employees, and weekly card games. They were blessed with life-long friends to share these special times.

Jamie was a devoted Christian lady. From their early days attending Mandeville Baptist Church, through many years of service at Hickory Street Baptist Church, and their years at Beech Street Baptist Church, Jamie and B. C. centered much of their time in church activities. Jamie’s involvement with her Sunday School class, their senior adult choir, and TANG activities were treasured times with special friends.

Jamie is survived by her children and their spouses: Randy and Prissy Hickerson of Texarkana, Ron and Patty Hickerson of Newbern, TN, and Janis and James Duke of Prosper, TX; three sisters, Dorothy Otwell, Ella Frances Bartee, and Carol Ann McVeety; five grandchildren, Chris Hickerson, Michael Hickerson (Jodi), Dr. Chelsea Hickerson (Wesley Stewart), McKinley Duke, and Cullen Duke; and seven great-granddaughters, Sarah, Emma, Reagan, Carly, Hayden, Bryce, and Tyler.

As Jamie’s health began to decline, she moved to Windsor Cottage. The family is so very thankful to the Windsor Cottage family for the love and care they provided for our mother.

Visitation will take place Saturday at 2:00 P.M at the Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 P. M. with Richard Posey and Craig Jenkins officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

The family will gather at the home of Randy and Prissy Hickerson, Texarkana, Arkansas.

Memorials may be made to Beech Street First Baptist Church, 601 Beech Street, Texarkana, AR 71854.
