Community meeting to address goals for Little River County
A community development meeting in Ashdown, Ark., will be at 6 p.m. today in the Domtar Learning and Development Center of the paper mill.
“During this meeting we will have a short discussion on the overall vision statement and hear what high school students had to say. But, most of our time will be dividing into groups and discuss the following eight issues, said Vickie Williamson, economic development director for Little River County.
The issues for Little River County includes:
■ Improving and marketing area’s natural attractions such as parks, trail development, water recreation, fishing and hunting
■ Job skills and training
■ Improving appearance of properties and store fronts
■ Dealing with proximity of Texarkana
■ Diversity of agricultural products
■ Housing
■ Revitalization of downtown
■ Lack of things to do (no restaurants, festivals, shopping, youth center)
“We have great opportunities and great resources—let’s put them together to become the community we want to be,” Williamson said.
