Prescott topples Mountain View
PRESCOTT, Ark.—Prescott senior quarterback Ryan Johnson passed for three first-half touchdowns as the Curley Wolves built a 28-0 halftime cushion and cruised to a 42-6 victory over Mountain View in the first round of the Class 3A football playoffs Friday night at Eddie Jackson Field.
Prescott (10-1) advances to next Friday’s second round on the road against unbeaten Clinton (11-0), which blew out Charleston, 49-0, in its playoff opener.
The Wolves used a balanced offense to romp past the Yellowjackets, gaining 354 yards total offense, including 197 on the ground.
Johnson was a catalyst, completing 8-of-14 passes for 157 yards and three scores. All three touchdowns went to different receivers: Keonte Franklin (43 yards), Quantas Gulley (19 yards) and Jacobi Nolen (17 yards).
Prescott’s other first-half TD came on a 1-yard plunge by Colton Johnson.
The Wolves added single scores in the third and fourth quarters, with Darriun Thompson breaking loose on a 70-yard TD scamper and Jaylon Hopson dashing 16 yards for the other TD.
Prescott’s defense, which has been allowing only 7.7 points a game, also did its job, holding Mountain View (2-8) to 158 yards total offense. The Wolves also forced three three turnovers, recovering all three fumbles.
The Yellowjackets averted the shutout when Gunner Willis broke free for a 21-yard touchdown run with 10:04 remaining in the game.
