Curley Wolves’ George sparks victory over McGehee
PRESCOTT, Ark.—Prescott’s tailback Alex George’s downhill run- ning helped the Curley Wolves beat McGehee at their own game.
George finished with a team-high 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Curley Wolves to a 26-0 victory over the Owls in a Class 3A state quarterfinal football playoff game Friday night at Eddie Jackson Field at Cummins Stadium.
The Wolves (12-1) will play at Booneville (14-0) in next Friday’s semifinals. Booneville rolled over Camden Harmony Grove, 43-22, Friday. Osceola (12-1) will host Rison (14-0) in the other semifinal. Osceola edged Smackover, 24-21, and Rison romped past Lamar, 53-12, in quarterfinal action Friday.
McGehee (9-4) ate up much of the clock in the first quarter with their Wing-T offense. Prescott was limited to two possessions in the opening
quarter, but the Wolves made the most of their offensive opportunities.
Ryan Johnson scored for Prescott in the first quarter on a 20-yard run. Johnson finished with nine carries for 57 yards and a score.
George added to the Curley Wolves’ lead when he barreled over McGehee defenders on his 16-yard scoring run.
Derriun Thompson gave Prescott a jolt on both sides of the ball. He intercepted an Owl pass in the first half and also rushed 13 times for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Caleb Woodson topped the McGehee rushing attack, finishing with 82 yards on 21 carries.
