Prescott advances with victory over McGehee

PRESCOTT, Ark.— McGehee dialed up the Wing-T, but Prescott answered the call.

The Curley Wolves (121) beat the Owls (9-4) in a Class 3A quarterfin­al playoff game Friday night at Eddie Jackson Field at Cummins Stadium, 26-0.

Prescott has advanced to the Class 3A semifinals two out of the last three years.

The Curley Wolves responded to the Owls’ offensive clock management with stout defensive play on the interior defensive line.

Derriun Thompson put the game out of reach for Prescott on his 1-yard score in the fourth quarter with 7:49 remaining against McGehee, 26-0.

Thompson rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries for Prescott.

Alex George scored his second touchdown of the game on a 1-yard plunge to give Prescott a cushion over McGehee in the third quarter, 20-0.

George finished with 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 20 totes, leading the Wolves in the rushing category.

Prescott won the turnover battle with the Owls.

McGehee committed 14 penalties for 75 yards, while the Curley Wolves were flagged 11 times for 85 yards.

George added to the Wolves’ lead with his 16-yard scamper to the end zone in the second quarter with 11:15 before intermissi­on.

Quarterbac­k Ryan Johnson put the Curley Wolves on the board first with his 20-yard run in the first quarter with 4:31 remaining. Johnson finished with 57 yards and a score on nine carries.

Thompson intercepte­d a McGehee pass on the 3-yard line on their opening drive.

The Owls ate up much of the first quarter with their Wing-T offense.

Caleb Woodson led the McGehee rushing attack,

finishing with 82 yards on 21 carries.

Prescott (12-1) will travel to Booneville (14-0) to take on the Bearcats in the Class 3A semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday. Booneville rolled over Camden Harmony Grove, 43-22, Friday.

Osceola (12-1) will host Rison (140) in the other semifinal. Osceola edged Smackover, 24-21, and Rison romped past Lamar, 53-12, in quarterfin­al action Friday.
