Two charged in attempted robbery

-

Texarkana,Texas, police arrested Texas-side man and a Maud, Texas, woman Sunday evening in connection with an attempted robbery of Ellis Pottery on Summerhill Road.

Police charged both Brandon Staggs, 25, and Toni Works, 34, with aggravated robbery just as the store was about close shortly after 8 p.m.

Texas-side Police Public Information Officer Shawn Vaughn said Staggs entered Ellis Pottery through an unsecured back door shortly after the store’s employees closed the business for the evening.

Once inside, police said Staggs, who was allegedly armed with a shotgun, attempted to rob two employees still inside the building. At some point during the process of the crime being committed, a struggle between Staggs and the two employees over the weapon ensued. One of the employees, who had a concealed handgun license, produced a handgun and fired two shots but no one was hit.

The two employees were then able to restrain Staggs and called 911, prompting officers to arrive.

Once officers arrived, they took Staggs into custody. The officers also managed to locate Works, who was allegedly waiting for Staggs inside a vehicle in the business’ parking lot. She was also arrested.

Both suspects were transported to the Bi-State Justice Building Jail, where they remain pending bail.
