Atlanta boys overcome Hughes Springs in tourney

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas—Atlanta’s boys defeated Hughes Springs, 73-53, Friday in the Hughes Springs Tournament.

Daimon Collins led the Rabbs with 23 points and teammate Hunter Allen added 19. Charlie Powell contribute­d 18 points.

Devin Flournoy paced the Mustangs with 11 points and teammate Chandler King chipped in 10.

Hughes Springs defeated Paul Pewitt in the Mustangs’ second game of the day, 63-29.

King led Hughes Springs with 21 points and Flournoy added 19. Bryce Johnston added 12 points for the Mustangs.

New Boston throttled Harleton in their first game, 40-15, and Hawkins drummed Harleton in second-game action, 74-14.

Linden-Kildare edged Pewitt in the Tigers’ first game of the day, 47-33.

Cross Holder led Pewitt with 10 points. L-K defeated New Boston in the nightcap, 44-39.

McLeod rolls Mount Enterprise, Beckville

GLADEWATER, Texas—McLeod throttled Mount Enterprise in their first game at the Union Grove Tournament, 47-23.

Trevor Deel led the Longhorns with 13 points and teammate Blake Williams added 12.

The Longhorns defeated Beckville in their second game of the day, 53-42.

Casey Smith led McLeod with 13 points and Kobe Bonner and Williams chipped in 12 each.

Como-Pickton defeated Maud, 51-32. Kasen Minter, a 6-foot-4 center, paced the Cardinals with 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and seven rebounds, and Hunter Thomas added nine points and five boards. Javard McGill led the winning Eagles with a game-high 22 points.

Redwater wins in JB tourney

SIMMS, Texas—Redwater won both of its games Friday in the James Bowie Invitation­al basketball tournament.

In their first game, the Dragons drummed Trinity Christian Academy-Paris, 62-19. Parker Gravitt led Redwater with 19 points and teammate Malcolm Brown added 16.

The Dragons defeated Bloomburg in their second game of the day, 63-23. Gravitt fueled Redwater with a game-high 22 points and Mason Robertson contribute­d 12.

The host Pirates suffered a 48-37 loss to Queen City. James Bowie’s Evan Barron led all scorers with 20 points. Corey Ware and Washington had 11 apiece for the Bulldogs.

James Bowie led 18-17 at halftime before Queen City outscored the Pirates 31-19 in the second half.

Today’s schedule has Bloomburg clashing with Trinity Christian-Paris at 10:30 a.m., followed by James Bowie facing Redwater at 1:30 p.m.

Girls Hughes Springs tourney

HUGHES SPRINGS, Texas — Linden Kildare and host Hughes Springs suffered a pair of losses each Friday in the Hughes Springs Tournament.

Linden-Kildare lost to Elysian Fields, 43-3 and Harmony, 52-6, while Hughes Springs fell to Harmony, 32-19, and White Oak, 48-19. DeKalb also absorbed a pair of defeats by having to forfeit to White Oak and Harleton because of a shortage of players due to injury.

In other Friday action, Pittsburg won twice, beating Elysian Fields, 45-41 and Harleton, 61-47.

Tournament play continues today at Hughes Springs’ High School and the junior high gyms.

Hooks in JB consolatio­n

SIMMS, Texas—Ore City and North Hopkins will collide at 4:30 p.m. today for the girls championsh­ip in the James Bowie Invitation­al. Hooks faces Genoa Central at 3 p.m. for the consolatio­n title.

In today’s other two games, it’s James Bowie’s junior varsity vs. Trinity Christian-Paris at 9 a.m., and Bloomburg vs. James Bowie varsity at noon.

Fouke eases past De Queen

FOUKE, Ark.—Fouke and De Queen played a very closely contested game, with the Lady Panthers hanging on for a 72-70 win over the Lady Leopards.

There was a 3-point barrage in this game. The Leopards, led by Ashelyn Chambers with seven treys and 29 total points, had a total of 13 3-pointers in this game. The Panthers were topped by Taylor Hardin with six 3-pointers and 25 points. Mallory Aliser and Lakyn Smallwood each had 12 for the Lady Panthers (7-1).

Ashley Dykes chipped in 21 for the Lady Leopards.
